This project was unique from the perspective that the original building is located in the historic district of downtown Frederick. Due to the strict preservation guidelines, the HVAC units were unable to be placed on the exterior of the structure. We worked closely with the Design Team to develop a HVAC system that could be installed within the limited clearance above the ceiling and maintain the useable space required for a functional kitchen. The minimal kitchen area was designed around the space specified for preparation areas, cooking surfaces, walk-in cooler and the restaurant’s custom built smoker. The receipt of equipment was closely coordinated with the project’s critical path activities to allow the delivery and installation prior to the replacement of glazing, entrances and the completion of partitions to afford adequate clearance. Additionally, a new primary electrical service was designed utilizing existing underground conduits to prevent disturbing the adjacent streetscape.
